Silencing the Negative Inner Voice ..!!

"SILENCE THE NEGATIVE INNER VOICE" silencethe negative inner critic Usually somewhere along the way in our journey oflife, we have come across someone who tells us that we're not good at doingsomething. It could be writing, or singing, or dancing, or speaking. Anything. And, we believe them. The tragedy can come from not following our dreamsbecause we always hear that one negative voice telling us that we're no good.It doesn't even matter how many other people we come across who will tell usyes we are good at doing something, we always remember that one negative voice. It's time to move past the negative voice. Here's how: 1. Do it anyway — do you love singing? Then sing. How about writing? If youlove it, do it. That's the only reason. It brings you joy, do it. Life is tooshort to not do the things we love because some misguided person told us not todo it. If we all listened to these negative people then some of the greatest lifestories would never happened. Take this for example: "Many years ago a young man mustered enough courage to ask a young womanto dance. After he danced with her for a few minutes, the woman told him he wasa lousy dancer. She complained that he danced like a truck driver. To be sure, this bad experience would be enough for most people to quit dancingfor good. Watching television or sitting around being bored would be moreappealing than dancing again. Yet this man developed a passion for dancing andcontinued to dance for many decades. In fact this man became known as one of the great dancers of modern times. Bythe early nineties, when he died, he had 500 dance schools named after him. Atone time, he had been on television for eleven years straight, showing peoplefrom all walks of life - including truck drivers - how to dance." (excerpt from The Joy of Not Working by Ernie Zelinski) Who was this man? None other than Arthur Murray. Luckily he didn't let that onewoman's comment stop him from doing what he loved. Or did youknow that George Lucas spent four years shipping the script for Star Warsaround to the various studios and racking up numerous rejections in theprocess? If he'd let his negative inner voice get to him he would never haveended up having the highest grossing film of all time. 2. Brainstorm and Break Apart — Think of all the steps you will need to do toaccomplish the one thing you really want to do above all else. Break theultimate end goal into smaller tasks and then just start plugging away at them. It's far easier to take one small step and to keep going than gettingfrustrated because you haven't managed to fulfill the ultimate goal yet. 3. Take small steps — so you want to write the next great American novel butyour English teacher told you that a three-year old could write better than you.Or maybe they told you not to waste your time doing something that you'll neverbe able to make any money at. To get past this, take small steps. Instead ofgetting frustrated because you can't write your novel, write a short storyinstead. Write articles. Write, write, and write some more. Each time you writeyou will be gaining confidence in your ability. You'll soon be able to see thatyou are able to write because you have actual examples. Each step you take willalso bring you into contact with new opportunities and new ideas and one stepcloser to your ultimate dream. Just keep doing whatever it is that you lovedoing. You will also find that you are happiest when you are doing whatever itis that you love doing. This will also encourage to keep going. 4. Remember the big picture — whenever you get bogged down by the day to dayissues, think back to the big picture. What is it that you want to accomplishin the end? What is it that you really, really want to do? Think how great itwill feel when it actually happens. Focus on that. Ignore the little things. They'll soon be in the past. 5. Reflect— Think back on how far you've already come. You've taken great stridesalready. Think how great it felt when you were able to accomplish some of thosesmall steps. negative inner conversations, tell them do not disturb 6. Focus on somethingelse —whenever you hear that voice, tell it to "shut up" or think of putting upa Do Not Disturb sign for your inner critic and then think of somethingpositive in your life. Think about a loved one, your dog, a funny joke, anything to get yourself back in a positive mind set. Also, instead of thatinner critic create for yourself an Inner Supporter. 7. Go for a walk — sometimes just getting up and doing something physical givesus enough endorphins to actually feel better about ourselves. When we feelbetter about ourselves, it's easier to accomplish our goals. 8. Listen to your heart — whatever it is that you really want to do with yourlife, it's not going to go away. It will always be there. It will also kill youto see someone else doing that thing you really wanted to do with your life. The tragedy is when it turns into a regret that you never took the chance toeven try. 9. Greatest Critic Becomes Greatest Supporter — remember when you finally dosucceed that most negative person who said you could never do it, will probablybe the loudest person to say, "I knew they could it". It's human nature. And ifyou have no idea where your 4th grade English teacher is now, just think whatgreat revenge it is when you know they're going to read your novel and justsay, "Wow". Maybe you could even send them a copy. 10. Have Faith — it's your life not someone else's. So, LIVE IT! You can nevermake someone else happy by living the way they want you to live. You'll onlyend up making yourself miserable and that person will never be satisfied. Youhave to listen to your heart and do what is best for you.

"Never Quit"

Never Quit One day I decided to quit...quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality... I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with GOD. "GOD", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?" His answer surprised me... "Look around", GOD said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo? " "Yes", I replied. When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. It has brilliantly covered the floor green. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo." GOD said." In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit." GOD said. "Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant... But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle." GOD said to me. "Did you know that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots?" "I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you." "Don't compare yourself to others." GOD said. "The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful." "Your time will come", GOD said to me. "You will rise high" "How high should I rise?" I asked. "How high will the bamboo rise?" GOD asked in return. "As high as it can?" I questioned. "Yes." GOD said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can." I left the forest and bring back this story. I hope these words can help you see that GOD will never give up on you. GOD will never give up on you.

I WISH YOU ENOUGH

I WISH YOU ENOUGH Recently I overheard a Father and daughter in their last momentstogether at the airport. They had announced the departure. Standing near thesecurity gate, they hugged and the Father said, 'I love you, and I wish youenough.' The daughter replied, 'Dad, our life together has been more thanenough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Dad.' They kissed and the daughter left. The Father walked over to the window where Iwas seated. Standing there I could see he wanted and needed to cry. I tried notto intrude on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, 'Did you ever saygood-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?' 'Yes, I have,' I replied.'Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever good-bye?'.. 'I am old, andshe lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is - the nexttrip back will be for my funeral,' he said. 'When you were saying good-bye, Iheard you say, 'I wish you enough.' May I ask what that means?' He began tosmile. 'That's a wish that has been handed down from other generations. Myparents used to say it to everyone...' He paused a moment and looked up as iftrying to remember it in detail, and he smiled even more. 'When we said, 'Iwish you enough,' we were wanting the other person to have a life filled withjust enough good things to sustain them.' Then turning toward me, he shared thefollowing as if he were reciting it from his memory. I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the daymay appear. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting. I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appearbigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye. He then began to cry and walked away. They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them; but then an entire life to forget them. I WISH YOU ENOUGH !!!

21-DAY FORMULA TO FORM POSITIVE HABITS

What is auto-suggestion? An auto-suggestion is a statement made in thepresent tense, of the kind of person you want to be. Auto-suggestions are like writing acommercial to yourself about yourself, for yourself. They influence both yourconscious and subconscious mind which in turn influence attitude and behavior. Auto-suggestions are a way to program your subconscious mind. They can beeither positive or negative. Examples of negative auto-suggestions are: ¨ I'm tired. ¨ I'm not an athlete. ¨ I have a poor memory. ¨ I'm not good at math. When we repeat to ourselves a negative auto-suggestion, our subconsciousmind believes it and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy and startsreflecting in our behavior. Forexample, when I am talking to someone and I forget what I had to say, I tellthe other person, "See, I forgot what I wanted to say. I have such a poormemory." People who come into contact with crime the first time, hate it. With constantexposure they get used to it and if the exposure is long enough, they mayembrace it. And they become creators of their own misfortune. When a person repeats a belief long enough, it sinks into the subconsciousand becomes reality. A lierepeated long enough becomes accepted as the truth. Positive auto-suggestions are being widely used in the field of sports andmedicine. Why make positive statements? Because we want to create a picture inour minds of what we want to have rather than what we don't. Any picture thatwe hold in our mind becomes reality. Auto-suggestionsare a process of repetition. Aperson who repeats a statement long enough lets it sink into the subconsciousmind. For example, I am relaxed. I am cool, calm and collected. Auto-suggestions should not be practiced in a negative way I am not tense. Iwon't be angry. Positivestatements are made because we think in pictures and not in words. If I say"Don't think of the blue elephant," what is the first picture thatcomes to your mind? The blue elephant. If I say "mother," what comes to your mind? A picture of your mother.Did you start spelling m-o-t-h-e-r? Of course not! When a negative word comes in theauto-suggestion, it forms a negative picture which we want to avoid. Why in the present tense? Because our mind cannot tell the differencebetween a real experience and an imagined one. For example, parents are expectingtheir child to come home at 9:30 p.m. but the kid is not home and it is now 1a.m. What is going through the parents' mind? They are probably hopingeverything's okay. "I hope the kid didn't get into an accident." Whatis happening to their blood pressure? It is going up! This is an imaginedexperience. The reality could be that the kid is having fun at a party, isirresponsible, and did not get home when he was supposed to. Now reverse the scenario. Supposing the kid was very responsible and wasactually coming home at 9:30 p.m. but got into an accident, and still didn't get home at1 a.m. What is happening to the parents' blood pressure? It is still going up!The first scenario was an imagined experience. The second one was a realexperience but the body's response in both cases was identical. Our mind cannottell the difference between a real and an imagined experience. Preparethe Subsconscious How can we use auto-suggestions to eliminate negative habits and developpositive ones? We have all used auto-suggestions unconsciously. For example, when youhave to catch an early morning flight, you automatically tell yourself that youhave got to get up. And invariably, you do (sometimes, even without an alarmclock). A prepared subconscious mind has hunches and gut feelings. Auto-suggestion is a way to program and condition our mind to make a statementinto a self-fulfilling prophecy. Auto-suggestion is a repetitive process through which we feed our subconsciouswith positive statements which translate into reality. Repetition alone is not enough, unless it is accompanied by emotions and feelings. Auto-suggestions without visualization will not produce results. The first time our mind receives anautosuggestion it rejects it. Why? It is an alien thought, contrary to ourbelief system. Success would depend on our ability to concentrate and repeatthe process. Steps to follow on auto-suggestions. 1. Go to a spot where you won't be disturbed. 2. Write down your suggestions. The self-discipline to finish what one starts, is imperative. Auto-suggestion is a powerfulcharacter building tool. TranslatingAuto-Suggestion into Reality 1. Make a list of your auto-suggestions in the present tense. 2. Repeat auto-suggestions at least twice a day: first thing in the morning andat the end of the day. This is because in the morning, the mind is fresh andreceptive and at night you deposit the positive picture into your subconsciousovernight. 3. Repeat it consecutively for 21 days until it becomes a habit. 4. Auto-suggestions alone will not work. They need visualization. VISUALIZATION Visualization is the process of creating and seeing a mental picture of the kindof thing you want to have or do, or the kind of person you want to be. Visualization goes hand in hand withauto-suggestion. Auto-suggestion without visualization is mechanical repetitionand will be ineffective. In order to see results, auto-suggestion must beaccompanied by feelings and emotions (visualization). CAUTION! Auto-suggestionmay not be acceptable to the mind the first time you do it because it is analien thought. For example, if for the past few decades I have believed that Ihave a poor memory and now all of a sudden, I tell myself, "I have a goodmemory!", my mind will throw it out, saying, "You liar! You have abad memory!" Because that is what it has believed up to this point. Itwill take 21 days to dispel this notion. Why 21 days? Because it takes aminimum of 21 days of conscious, consecutive practice to formulate a habit. The big question is: Is 21 days of conscious effort a heavy price to pay tochange a lifetime for the better? It all sounds simple but it is not easy. I amnot surprised to see how few people go through this routine. Source : You can Win

PERCEPTION

PERCEPTION The violinist received his first dollar. A woman threw money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk. At 6 minutes: A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watchand started to walk again. At 10 minutes : A 3-year old boy stopped, but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his In Washington DC, at a Metro Station, on acold January morning in 2007, this man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, approximately 2,000 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After about 3 minutes, a middle-aged man noticed that there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds, and then he hurried on to meet his schedule. About 4 minutes later: head the whole time. This action was repeated by several other children, but every parent - without exception - forced their children to move on quickly. At 45 Minutes : The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32. After 1 Hour : He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed and no one applauded. There was no recognition at all. No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatestmusicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces everwritten, with a Stradivarius violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before, Joshua Bell sold-out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100 each to sit and listen to him play the same music. This is a true story. Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the DC Metro Station, was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities. This experiment raised several questions : *In a common-place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceivebeauty? *If so, do we stop to appreciate it? *Do we recognise talent in an unexpected context? One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians inthe world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the mostbeautiful instruments ever made . . . How many other things are we missing as we rush through life ?????! source Inspirational site.....

WHAT SHOULD BE A MAN'S FOOD?

WHAT SHOULD BE A MAN'S FOOD? Next to air and water the most important requisite for a human being to stay alive is food. What should one eat? What is the objective of food? How much should one eat? These are the questions which need due consideration. What Is the objective of food? The object of man's food is not just to fill his belly, to maintain health or to satisfy his taste but to properly develop his mind and character too. Our intake of food is closely related with our thinking, character and deeds. Age old saying "The kind of food you eat determines the kind of man you are', is equally applicable today also. The taste of a man in different types of food reflects his behavior and character. In fact it is an indicator of one's innermost self. Hence, the objective of our diet should be to consume only those items which contribute to our physical, moral, social and spiritual uplift and promote love, affection, compassion, non violence, peace and similar values of life. What type of food we need? Our food should contain all those ingredients which produce energy, health and heat. Our food should have proteins, sugar, vitamins, minerals and fats in adequate quantities and right proportion so that good quality of new cells and R.B.Cs (Red Blood Corpuscles) are produced continuously. Because in our system, millions of R.B.Cs are produced and destroyed every second. It is estimated that in each duration of six years, all the cells and tissues of our body are completely replaced. As the snake changes its old skin by the new one every six months, similarly our body also changes its all cells and tissues every sixth year, and the quality of these new cells depends on the quality of our intake of food. Simultaneously, our food should contain substances which help build up our body's defence system or immunity from disease and do not interfere in expulsion of waste materials and toxins. Our food should not contain substances which are disease inducing, which destroy health and which create excitement and affect us emotionally, phychologically and create imbalance and lack of self control and discipline in the body. Food requirement of our body : Nature has created for us so many kind of foodgrains, fruits, nuts, leaves and vegetables etc. which contain all types of nutritional ingredients in sufficient quantity. According to your taste and financial status you can prepare both cheap and costly, balanced and nutritional vegetarian diet by selecting various items from the list of products. Vegetarian foods not only cost less but also increases the resistance power of our body against diseases, thereby saving our health, money and time. Raw and uncooked vegetables and fruits are well known for their qualities in curing many ailments. Certain type of dietry fibres which are found in plant foods only, help to keep the blood cholesterol level low and offer protection against diabetes and many other diseases. How much to eat? Many more people die of over-eating than of starvation. Eating a bit less is much better than to eat more. We must remember that "We eat to live and not live to eat". Thus our food intake should be slightly less than our hunger as like many other bodily functions, eating also is a matter of habit. People doing same kind of work and of same age group, do not eat equal quantity of food. Some eat more while some eat less. Those who eat less are by no means less healthy than those who eat more. Nor are those who eat costly stuff stronger than those who eat cheaper nutritional food. Those who eat more than their appetite, become victims of obesity which tends to make them lazy and sluggish, leading to indigestion, constipation and other ailments. Over-eating is the main and root cause of most diseases. There is a saying "Bigger the waistline shorter is life line". The great Sufi saint Sheikh Saadi, advised that only half of one's stomach should be filled by food, one quarter should be filled with water, the remaining quarter should be left empty and that would be filled with the glory of God. Eating more due to tasty foods invite problems for one's health. Shastras have advised both the students as well as Saadhaks (spiritual practitioners) to eat sparingly and described it as an essential pre-requisite for the success of their endeavours. One of the biggest advantage of the vegetarian food is that it is bulky and satisfies our hunger quickly. It contains less cholesterol and is usually less spicy. As such it is difficult to eat more vegetarian food than the requirement of the body. The obesity thus remains under check. Our body is a wonderfully complex machine which is constantly engaged in many activities like breathing in and out, purifying and circulating the blood, producing fresh blood, digesting, expelling toxins and waste products from the system and numerous other functions. Like other machines, this machine also requires some rest, which we can give it by observing fast once a week. This practice will reduce pressure on our digestive system and on the kidneys, and avoid many kinds of diseases. More food does not mean more health. The less you pour into this machine the more efficiently will it work for you, and the more you give it, the less productive it will be for you. "Food is made for us and we are not made for food", hence to remain healthy our principle should be "Eat less - have more patience". Difference between hunger of body and mind : In order to justffy all his actions, man often says that he has to do everything to satisfy the hunger of his body. It is a fact that hunger of body makes every person restless and forces him to tread on a wrong path but it is much more true that the demand of hunge,- of body is very limited and he can fulfil it by little bit of hard work without resort to sinful or criminal actions. The hunger which never satisfies and for which one does so many wrong deeds, is not the hunger of body but is in fact the hunger of mind. This malaise of mind goes on increasing. The more one tries to satisfy it, the more it grows and leads him to cheating, fraud, arson, crime, murder and other bad habits resulting in fear, tension, anger and hatred, which are the main causes of all bad deeds and diseases. It is often said that hunger of stomach has been satisfied but not of mind. This ever hungry mind creates most of the problems for us. As such it is in the interest of man to understand the difference between these two types of hungers.Source:Jainism

"NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF"

"NEVER DOUBT YOURSELF" If I would leave any thought with someone I would say never doubt yourself. No matter what people say, no matter what you may think sometimes, never doubt yourself. If you believe in yourself you will succeed far more than you will fail. He who possesses a quiet kind of faith in his ability to performa task already has the task half completed. Believe in yourself despite setbacks, despite the seemingly immovable obstacles, despite the cold and dark, despite the woe andpain, and eventually your faith will come to fruition, and you will find all those troubles behind you. The simplest thing in the world is to deride ourselves because we made a mistake, to give up and say, "I'm no good", but the more difficult thing is to believe in ourselves and constructively continue our life. The greatest error in life is to downgrade ourselves. The most horrible tragedies in life have occurred from a lack offaith in one's own self, one's own ability, from a belief that one cannot succeed, but that failure is their sole lot in life. There seems to be a self uncertainty that buildsup in the mind every time one makes a mistake or fails to accomplish a task, and with every successive blunder the uncertainty grows stronger until one doubts one's ability to do anything right. Being human we are host to a number of frailties, each one of which disturbs and depresses us, and makes us doubtour worth. We are not a mechanically precise machine, we are a bundle of nerves which often tangle and get jangled, but are capable of amazing performance. We have more strength than we believe, there is more fight within us than we know, and far more potential than we could evercall forth or even dream of being possible.

"CHOICES"

CHOICES CHAPTER ONE I walk down the street. There's a hole in the sidewalk. It is a very deep hole. I fall in... I am helpless. It isn't my fault. It takes forever to find a way out. CHAPTER TWO I walk down the same street. There's a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in... again. I can't believe I'm in the same place, but itisn't my fault. It still takes a long time to get out. CHAPTER THREE I walk down the same street. There's a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in... it's a habit, but my eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately. CHAPTER FOUR I walk down the same street. There's a deep hole in the side walk. I walk around it. CHAPTER FIVE I walk down another street. What a marvelous progression from... a helpless victim of life... to a victim of self... to taking responsibility... toself-discipline... to making better choices!

"Self-Actualization Footnotes"

"Self-Actualization Footnotes" The starting point to personal achievement and self-actualizationbegins with definiteness of purpose coupled with a burning desire for its achievement. Equally important is accurate thinking and timely planning. General background knowledge isimportant. The person who has a broad knowledge of many fields and an abundance of accumulative experience can come up with new and significant creative ideaseasier and more rapidly than can the individual who has specialized knowledge inonly one field. Collect and file notes, clippings, and ideas that seem interesting, provocative and original. Askyourself "how might I be able to use or improve on this or that?" Engage freely in hobbies, games, crossword puzzles! Read at least one book a month. Travel! There is a big learningexperience out there. It doesn't have to be expensive or international. Continually ask "Why?""How come?" and "Who says so?"...and then ask it again andagain! Dumb questions are often penetrating questions in disguise. Avoid rigid, set patterns ofdoing things. That's a little dull! Go on a retreat, or simply choose to meetnew people. Be open and receptive to yourhunches as well as to other's ideas. Ideas are fleeting and quite often, fragile. Listen positively to them and above all, jot them down in your ideabook or journal. Stop...look...and pause! Inother words, pay attention, to yourself, others and the things around you. Thisis how we learn. Adopt a "let's try itattitude!" All of history's big ideas and breakthroughs were originallyrisks. Polish you self-image, and haveit say YOU are important! No matter what we are thinking or feeling, be itpositive or negative, comes across loud and clear. Choose to be bold, courageousand curious! Weak people seldom accomplish things of significance! Sift fact from opinion orothers' assumptions. This vital! The world seems to tolerate mediocrity! Choose to be a winner! An innovator! An explorer! There is room here for everyone. Laugh freely and often!"Life is a bubble...so why worry and trouble?" Serious, seriouspeople are often bores in disguise. Think BIG! It takes as much energy and effort to think "BIG" as it does to think"small". It doesn't matter where you arefrom or what schooling you possess, but rather it is"what you do" and"how you do it" that really counts! If it is said "it can't bedone" ask him or her..."What have YOU done of significance that qualifies you to say it can't be done?" "Remember not the events ofthe past, the things of long ago consider not, see, I am doing something new!"
